Professor of Methods of Empirical Social Research at the University of Cologne

My current research focuses on kinship networks beyond the nuclear family and the consequences of divorce and separation for adults and children. Most of this work uses data from KINMATRIX, which began as an ERC Starting Grant project and has since grown into a larger research network.

I hold the Chair of Methods of Empirical Social Research in the Department of Sociology and Social Psychology at the University of Cologne. Before coming to Cologne, I was Associate Professor at the University of Amsterdam. I received my PhD from the University of Bamberg and was a Max Weber Fellow at the European University Institute.
