I am currently Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Amsterdam.

As of April 2020 I will be Professor in Methods of Empirical Social Research at the Institute of Sociology and Social Psychology at the University of Cologne.

I completed a PhD at the University of Bamberg and a Max Weber Postdoctoral Fellowship at the European University Institute. My interests are in social demography and life course research.

In August 2019, I have received an ERC Starting Grant of € 1,5 million from the European Commission for my project KINMATRIX (“Uncovering the Kinship Matrix: A New Study of Solidarity and Transmission in European Families”). KINMATRIX is a 5-year project starting in spring 2020. See the project description here.

I am also principal investigator of the NORFACE project CRITEVENTS (2017-2020), which has been awarded € 1,5 million by the European Commission via an ERA-NET Cofund grant. Read more about this project here.

Please see the current vacancies for PhD positions and postdoctoral positions at my Chair and at the KINMATRIX project.
